Staying Healthy When You Work From Home
Working from home is a dream for many people - the flexibility to determine
your work schedule is tempting, after all! However, with flexibility comes a
need to be disciplined... not just about your job or business, but also
when it comes to your health.
People who have worked from home can tell you that it can be a challenge
to tear yourself away from your work. It's so convenient to do "just one
more thing...". But sitting around, glued to your keyboard, isn't the
healthiest way to live, especially if you start to forget to eat, take breaks,
or move around. No matter how much you love your work, your health is
important. Make sure you:
- Eat - and eat healthy. It's too easy to grab an unhealthy snack.
Keep some healthy foods like fruit nearby so that you can quickly grab a
piece when you get hungry.
- Exercise! Yes, it can be really hard to motivate yourself to
pack, get dressed, and go to the gym when your office is just steps away from
your bedroom. Get a friend to meet you at the gym -- you'll be much less likely
to skip if someone's waiting for you. Or join an exercise class and enjoy the
opportunity to socialize, something that most stay-at-home workers don't get
much of during the day.
If you'd rather not go to a gym, then schedule a walk in the fresh air
every day. Or get a portable piece of exercise equipment (for example, an
exercise ball, or grips to exercise your hands...). Use them when you have
a few moments of down-time.
Exercise will get your blood moving again, help you clear your
mind, and make you feel better. Plus it helps to ward off the risk of
developing Type 2 Diabetes
and other health problems.
- Take breaks! And that includes taking a short snooze if you need
one. It's much easier to be productive when you're well-rested.
Make health a priority and you'll enjoy better productivity too.
